DESCRIPTION:Southeast Community College’s UPWARD Program is proud to bring the African American Read-In to the Reception and Treatment Center\, providing incarcerated students with the opportunity to engage with powerful literary works by Black authors. This event\, part of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) African American Read-In initiative\, celebrates Black voices in literature and fosters meaningful discussions on culture\, history\, and identity. \nWhile this event is not open to the public\, it represents an important step in expanding educational opportunities and creating spaces for reflection and dialogue within the correctional facility. Through shared readings and conversations\, students will explore themes of resilience\, justice\, and empowerment—reinforcing the belief that literature has the power to inspire and transform lives.
