Every year, hundreds of celebrations of the African American Read-In take place across the country and around the world. These events feature the texts, talks, and discussions by and about African American authors and serve as a way to recognize and amplify their work.

Beacon College Book Club Kick-Off
February 25, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
In collaboration with the NCTE and the African American Read-In, we will be hosting an event on February 25th, from 7:00 -9:00 p.m. Students are invited to come listen to excerpts from beautiful novels written by African American authors. The Beacon College community will come together to celebrate diversity through reading. At the end of the evening, students will be invited to complete a survey and choose our first official book for the Beacon Book Club! We are utilizing the following texts:
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Just Mercy
The Promise of Change
Dear Martin
Warriors Don’t Cry
We will be meeting outside and have small battery operated candles and printed excerpts from each text available for students. Faculty members and students will be sharing an excerpt from each text and a brief summary. At the end, the students will be choosing our first book for our inaugural book club.
