on "cutting greens" by lucille clifton - NCTE

Every year, hundreds of celebrations of the African American Read-In take place across the country and around the world. These events feature the texts, talks, and discussions by and about African American authors and serve as a way to recognize and amplify their work.

on “cutting greens” by lucille clifton

February 13, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Think of the first time you learned how to curl your wrist to peel yam; how to snap the tip of an okra to see if it is ready to be plucked; or, the exact moment you learned how to turn meat on a grill. We are taught to move and bend our bodies for nourishment. Our hands we use to eat and peel and stir and mash. Our teeth to strip and chew. Cooking and eating become holy traditions.

This is a literary space of remembering ancestral space and time. All participants will receive a literary and writing guide to better their class experience.
