Every year, hundreds of celebrations of the African American Read-In take place across the country and around the world. These events feature the texts, talks, and discussions by and about African American authors and serve as a way to recognize and amplify their work.

Leonardtown High School
February 25, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 12:45 pm
LHS’s Freshman Academy students planned an African American Read In for our school community. There were 10 guest readers and 3 musicians in our school Media Center. 9-12 grade students listened and asked questions. Lunch was provided from African American Cookbooks and prepared by our Food and Nutrition Science students. In addition, students curated readings and participated in the afternoon sessions. There were sessions about Langston Hughes and Slam Poetry that occurred in conjunction with the Read In.
