The National Day on Writing® (October 20) was founded by the National Council of Teachers of English on the premise that writing is critical to literacy but needs greater attention and celebration.
No matter who you are, writing is part of your life. It’s part of how you work, how you learn, how you remember, and how you communicate. It gives voice to who you are and enables you to give voice to the things that matter to you.
For the past 9 years, we’ve seen millions of people share their responses and engage in activities around #WhyIWrite.
This year we’re hoping to engage even more members in the experience so we’ve made arrangements to support you in this work. Whether you have an assembly event taking place on or around October 20, or you’d like to encourage your members to take part virtually, we’d like to send you a package of resources to support your efforts.
What do you need to do to receive the package?
Identify one person from your assembly to fill out the online form. We will only be able to send one packet to each assembly that applies. The online form asks for contact information as well as a detailed description of how you’ll use the enclosed materials. In preparation for filling out the form, think through your plans for the National Day on Writing. How will you encourage members to join in the international tweet-up of the #WhyIWrite hashtag? What kinds of activities could you sponsor either online or in person?
What’s in the package?
Each package contains:
- 5 National Day on Writing t-shirts*
- 50 National Day on Writing vinyl stickers
- 25 NCTE pens
- One National Day on Writing guidebook with 10 detailed descriptions of activities you might try with your members.
In order to make sure your packages arrive on time, the deadline to apply for this offer is September 30, 2018. Please submit the following form and we will be in touch should we have any questions.
