Background

The National Council of Teachers of English has supported earlier resolutions promoting an awareness of and support for the study of the literature of diverse cultural groups. However, Native American literature, both oral and written, largely has been ignored in language arts curricula. Be it therefore

Resolution

Resolved, that Native American literature and culture be taught kindergarten through college; and that programs in teacher preparation be encouraged to include resources, materials, and methods of presenting Native American literature and culture.
