Resolution on Establishing a Minority Affairs Committee

1972 NCTE Annual Business Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Background

At its Annual Business Meeting in 1971, NCTE approved a sense-of-the-house motion that the NCTE establish a Minority Affairs Advisory Committee, which might assume responsibilities for promoting and fostering greater minority group participation in the NCTE, suggesting programs on minority group affairs related to the teaching of English, etc. Be it therefore

Resolution

Resolved, that the NCTE Executive Committee, in consultation with the Task Force on Racism and Bias in the Teaching of English and in consultation with the proposers of 1971 sense-of-the-house motion #3, immediately consider implementation of the 1971 house motion to appoint a Minority Affairs Advisory Committee.
