Resolution on Student Involvement in NCTE Conferences

Background

For many years, the National Council of Teachers of English has demonstrated its concern for students and teacher candidates. Sessions of the Annual Convention have frequently emphasized matters which focus directly on students—their needs, problems, interests. In the recent past, students and teacher candidates have attended, and shown interest in, the national meetings. Nevertheless, only infrequently have students actually appeared on programs. Be it therefore

Resolution

Resolved, that the national program chairperson be advised that students be invited to participate in programs whenever and wherever it is appropriate, thereby assuring that the student’s point of view is directly expressed at sessions of the National Council of Teachers of English; and

that the local chairperson invite teacher candidates and other students to attend the Convention.
