Library Joy Meets the 2026 NCTE National African American Read-In
All teachers and students are invited to a special NCTE online event!

NCTE is thrilled to welcome Reading Rainbow host and author Mychal Threets for our annual National African American Read-In virtual event.
We invite educators, their students, and preservice teachers to a 45-minute conversation with Mychal.
The event will include:
- A reading from his forthcoming book I’m So Happy You’re Here: A Celebration of Library Joy, an illustrated look at the library and all the wonders it contains
- A positive mental health exercise led by Mychal
- A Q&A session with pre-selected questions that teachers can submit through the website
- A special opportunity for NCTE members to receive a free copy of the book
We can’t wait to see you online at this special NCTE National African American Read-In event!
This event is free for NCTE members and nonmembers. Registration is required and nonmembers may create an account to log in. Please contact profdev@ncte.org with any questions.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mychal Threets is a librarian, mental health advocate, and passionate supporter of libraries. Growing up in Fairfield, CA, he was home-schooled and spent much of his time in his local library, where he eventually worked his way up to become the Supervising Librarian. Mychal is open about his mental health and encourages others to believe him when he says he’s happy they are here.
He considers it an honor to the library people who raised him that he has received several accolades, including the 2024 “I Love My Librarian” award, being named one of School Library Journal’s 2024 Movers and Shakers, one of TIME Magazine’s 2024 Next Generation Leaders, a 2025 TIME100 creator, and a 2025 The Webby Awards winner for social impact. His debut picture book, I’m So Happy You’re Here: A Celebration of Library Joy, is scheduled to publish on February 3, 2026.
