Compared to her, Sammie describes herself as “absolutely, completely average,” not having her dashing looks, flirting ability or her soap opera love life. However, just when she thinks that her world cannot get any more uneventful, she finds that her parents are beginning a trial separation. The family had planned to go to California together as Sammie’s father was going on Sabbatical, but now her father is going alone. Sammie and her mother will be moving to New York City for the year. Sammie is devastated by this sudden news, and being closest and most similar to her father, feels deserted.
