A Long Walk to Water

A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park tells the story of Salva Dut, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, who lost his home and family during the Sudanese Civil War, which began in 1983. Salva is driven from his school and told to hide, which he does, beginning an impromptu journey of walking hundreds of miles to a refugee camp in Ethiopia. On his journey, he witnesses the ravages of war, makes a friend, reunites with an uncle, but then loses both his friend and his uncle to violence.
