Mary E. Pearson’s A Room on Lorelei Street (2005) tells the story of Zoe whose life changed drastically after her father passed away. Now, she lives with her mother who drinks too much and never gets up to go to work. As Zoe is straining to get through high school and hold a job she realizes that a change needs to be made. In order to gain control of her life she must leave her house and find a place of her own. This is found on Lorelei Street through a woman named Opal Keats who rents a room out to Zoe. However, to keep this room she must go through many difficult situations in order to keep this new life in order.
