In her novel Family Secrets, Norma Klein (1986) deals with the relationships of adolescents along with many of life’s struggles. She creates a colorful picture that is familiar to any seventeen-year old; drugs, sex, obesity, intermarriage relationships, and divorce. Klein creates a realistic account of two friends who casually extend their friendship to become lovers, and later face problems as the two eventually become related through marriage.
