Gossamer (Lowry, 2006) is the tale of strangers coming together as family with the help of imaginative creatures called dream-givers. A young boy named John, abused by his father, is put into the temporary care of an older woman who lives alone. John’s mother, a chain-smoking wreck, begins to try to change her life so that she can properly take care of John. Through this, the dream-givers collect memories to make into dreams which are then bestowed upon the characters.
