This book ls not the typical teenage romance novel. In this book Harriet Jacob is an outcast because she is a black slave in the mid 1800’s. Harriet tells about many of her dear friends and family. Harriet lost her mother and father at an early age, so her closest friend and relative is her Gran. Her Gran ls respect ln the black slave community and with some of the white folks.
