Little Chicago begins with the protagonist, 11-year-old Blacky Brown, running naked through the woods by his house. Blacky, the narrator, has just left the house of his mother’s boyfriend, Al, where he was sexually abused. At 5:30 am, Blacky finds his l6-year-old sister Shay at home and can hardly explain to her what happened with Al, her mother’s boyfriend. Shay borrows her friend Betty’s car and takes him to the hospital for help.
