In today’s erratic and nonsensical society, adolescents are becoming more and more perplexed regarding their value system; “young people today find themselves having to make decisions regarding their own values and behavior in a bewildering society” (Donelson, Nilsen, 1989, p. 83). From an English teacher’s viewpoint, literature is a worthy and valued tool to help students develop psychologically, emotionally, and socially, “the teaching of literature necessarily involves helping the student to handle social, psychological and ethical concepts.” (Rosenblatt, 1983, p. 109).
