The novel Peeling the Onion opens by revealing Anna’s state following her car accident. The narrative slips into a vague description of her dilapidated memories of the wreck. “I want to claw my way out but I can’t move. Want to scream but don’t know how. The blackness is swallowing me” (Orr, 1996, p.1).
