Ricochet River is set in the town of Calamus, Oregon, in the 1960s. Calamus is a logging town with a population of fewer than one thousand residents. The residents of the town are largely white, and the novel outlines the racial divide between the majority population and the displaced Native American populations that lie outside the town.
