Running Loose (1983) by Chris Crutcher, has a wide appeal from junior high to senior high, including both boys and girls. Connor, Tessmer, Fetz, and Toloui (1984, p. 64), in the 1984 poll of Young Adult Books said, “Running Loose attracted the largest readership from among the widest span of students, male and female.” This may be because Running Loose may be called anything from a sports story to a romance. There is action, humor, suspense, and conflict.
