She Said Yes by Misty Bernall (1999) is the remarkable story of Cassie Bernall. During the Columbine High School shootings in 1999, Cassie, a junior, was shot and killed because of her faith. As a memorial for her daughter and a testimony for parents and adolescents to learn from, Misty wrote She Said Yes to be a memoir of the few years prior to Cassie’s death. While Cassie may have died a martyr, she was not always firmly standing upon her faith. During Cassie’s 9th grade year of high school she was fully immersed in the goth culture and dealing heavily with peer pressure and depression.
