Sins of the Fathers, by Chris Lynch (2006), is a critically acclaimed young adult novel about friendship, Catholic education, and sexual abuse. Though the abuse is never directly witnessed or even talked about openly, critics agree that Sins of the Fathers is a story that “every teen will be able to relate to” (Rohrlick, 2006, p. 15). Carolyn Lehman (2006, September) of the
School Library Journal calls the book a “memorable depiction of the boys’ friendship and the redemptive power of their deep commitment to one another” (p. 211), and Monserrat Urena (2006) attests that it is “haunting text that stays after you long after you have finished reading”.
