Slaughterhouse-Five

Since Slaughterhouse-Five was published in March 1969, it has been banned from school libraries and reading lists more than one hundred times. The author himself has made several court appearances to speak in defense of his novel, and in a recent article entitled “Why are you banning my book?” he wonders why in 1981, Slaughterhouse-Five still remains on a list of “utterly intolerable books” which are the “most effective destroyer of the souls of children” (American School Board Journal, October 1981).
