Many people would automatically assume that two Jewish boys growing up in the same area of Brooklyn, would if not automatically, then quite naturally become friends, but within the first few paragraphs of the novel, it becomes abundantly clear that such is not the case. For despite their common Faith, their particular Jewish sects could not be more starkly different.
