Fifteen-year-old Jack Raab, a Jewish boy from Brooklyn, New York, lies about his age so that he can join the army and fight for glory and the defeat of Hitler, during World War II. On its twenty-fifth mission his bomber is shot down and Jack, the only survivor of the crash, is captured by the Germans and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.
