The Unthinkable Thoughts of Jacob Green by Joshua Braff is a novel about a Jewish family in the 1970s. The story focuses on and is told from the point of view of Jacob Green, one of the sons. Various segments of the story take place when Jacob is 10,13, and 15. The story is about Jacob’s so-called coming of age and is set against the background of traditional Judaism. Along the way Jacob deals with a learning disability, an overbearing and verbally abusive father, and a mother who’s never around and then leaves entirely.
