In her novel, Time Windows, Kathryn Reiss (1991) tells the story of a young woman’s encounter with the supernatural and her quest to help the abused ghosts she comes into contact with . Although Time Windows is considered a fantasy book, Reiss deals with many prevalent issues that young adults face in our society. Reiss writes a realistic account of the life of a thirteen year old girl who lives in a rural Massachusetts town; Miranda Browne not only discovers the exciting realms of fantasy in this novel, she also learns about female independence and the emotional pains that go along with being an abused child.
