In his novel The Unfinished Portrait of Jessica, Richard Peck (1991) tells of a young woman’s journey to accept both her parents’ divorce and herself. Peck includes numerous descriptive details of the occurrences in Jessica’s life that bring her to “stop wanting to be someone else” (The Unfinished Portrait of Jessica, p. 131) and to start growing up and achieving emotional and physical stability.
