5th Annual African American Read-In
February 17, 2021 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Join us virtually for the 5th Annual African American Read-In! This event celebrates African American literature and art through special guests, activities and books for all ages. This year, we’ll be hosting a Q&A panel of authors on Zoom to learn about their inspiration, background and creative processes. Stick around afterward for a raffle of book giveaways and time to “read in” virtually.
Meet our panelists:
Charlotte Watson Sherman has loved words ever since Pippi Longstocking hijacked her imagination in third grade. She grew up, the only girl, with too many brothers, in the Pacific Northwest’s Emerald City—Seattle. A lifelong daydreamer, she last published a chapter book—Eli and the Swamp Man—decades ago, but never stopped writing. Her debut picture book, BROWN SUGAR BABE, was published by Boyds Mills & Kane Press, February 4, 2020. She currently lives in southern California.
D’Mario Carter is the author of ALL IN, a collection of poetry. His words are meant to aid people in their past, present, and future lives while encouraging them to be who they truly are. D’Mario is passionate about community empowerment. From providing aid to the homeless and hungry, to educating our future generations. D’Mario’s goal is to implement positivity throughout the world, whether it be with his words or through his actions. D’Mario has inhaled the air and exhaled his heart and soul so people of all ages, genders, and colors can “breathe easy”.
Rosa Nicole Booker has a passion for the arts and a special love for theatre and dance. Her latest love is the desire to tell a story. Her first novel is entitled THE MONSTER IN MY ROOM and soon after will be her first children’s book entitled TOT’S BIG HOUSE. Rosa is excited to share written story and live discussion around mental health awareness, which is the theme of both books. She is Arizona born, but a Seattle Southend kid for life. Her parents brought her up in the Rainier Valley area where she continues to work and volunteer after completing her collegiate career in California.
