Goin’ Someplace Special African American Read-In

February 27, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Goin’ Someplace Special by Patricia McKissack was read aloud to three people, Riley Jensen, Carrie Wagner, and Chuck Wagner. The book follows a young girl, Tricia Ann, on her journey to “Someplace Special.” Mckissack took this story from her own childhood in Tennessee. The book is set during Segregation and Tricia Ann faces several racially motivated instances where she cannot go somewhere or end up somewhere she doesn’t “belong”. The book ends with Tricia Ann finally arriving to Someplace Special, the library, where a sign is posted that read “all are welcome here.”
