Hannah Sawyerr Reads Her Novel in Verse All the Fighting Parts

The Hayes High School library has participated in the NCTE African American Read In for over twenty years, and this year was as great as ever!  Librarian Sarah Ressler invited Morris finalist Hannah Sawyerr to virtually visit her school in Ohio at the end of February.

Hannah read excerpts from her novel-in-verse All the Fighting Parts to students for two class periods on Wednesday, February 28th.  Before each reading she provided a bit of context, and then delivered each poem with thoughtful elocution.  After the readings, students had a chance to ask questions and she is sending bookplates so the 6 copies of the books the Hayes library purchased will be autographed.

Students have checked out her book because of the reading and overall enjoyed the reading and specifically her message that when adults do bad things to children, it is not their fault.  Students really appreciate
