Lift Every Voice and Sing with Princeton High School

Books were secured via a grant by the preK-6 Humanities supervisor, Keisha Smith-Carrington.  Librarians across the district planned different events to celebrate the text and the anthem, and we were joined in the effort by Princeton Public Library (shout out to Kim Dorman!).  Princeton High School librarian, Jen Bigioni, coordinated the specifics for our Blackout Poetry event.  Our AARI umbrella organizer and facilitator was Dr. Joy Barnes-Johnson, our heart.  Thanks to the art teachers (Matthew Pembleton, Bridget Schmidt, and Judy Buckley) for leading with examples, guidance, and inspiration!  Thanks to the Humanities teachers (Doug Levandowski and Patricia Manhart) for teaching us what poetry is, generally, and Blackout poetry is, specifically, and for setting us up with a video clip of Reginald Dwayne Betts!  Thank you to the teachers and students who created beautiful, poignant poetry out of a stirring, uplifting anthem!
