Lift Every Voice | Sing A Song

February 1, 2021 @ 8:00 am - February 28, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

Princeton Community 2021 African American Read In (AARI2021) events for this year will focus on the triumph and inspiration of voice that resounds in the poem that is better known as the Negro National Anthem. We will focus on the 1900 words and sentiment of James Weldon Johnson’s canonical text “Lift Every Voice and Sing”. We will spotlight a children’s book called Sing A Song by Kelly S. Lyons  (Penguin) while pairing this text with other stories about anthems used to inspire the people of the United States of America for generations. We invite families and people of every age and identity to engage in conversation about how we use hard history to inspire us toward change.

Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,

Let us march on till victory is won.
