Northside Middle School ELA 8 Black History Month Celebration (Muncie Community Schools)
February 24, 2021 @ 9:00 am - February 25, 2021 @ 4:00 pm
As part of Muncie Community Schools corporation-wide Black History Month celebration, Dr. Nicole Cardassilaris and Miss Cayla Eckenroth hosted NCTE African–American Read-Ins during our 8th grade English Language Arts classes at Northside Middle School in Muncie, Indiana on February 22 and 23, 2021. Miss Eckenroth and I transformed the normal classroom setting into the following reading and listening stations: speeches, biographies, literature and poetry, music and visual arts, and history. Each station included books written by African American authors or about African American heritage and history. Students moved from station to station reading independently or to each other, conversing and sharing texts they discovered, as well as listening to recorded speeches by famous African Americans. Students were asked to write about they read and something inspriational they found in the experience.
