Pages of Power: The Connection of High School Mentor Readers and Elementary Readers

Overland High School in the Cherry Creek School District, in Aurora, CO will be joining forces to establish Pages of Power with 3rd grade readers for the NCTE National African American Read In. The high school reading students will be reading Your Name is a Song by Jamilah Tompkins-Bigelow to the 3rd-grade students. After the reading, the high school students will lead an activity centered on one of the themes of the book: Our names are reflections of our identity and culture. The activity will be focused on creating a beautiful artistic rendering of the students’ names. Each student will receive a copy of Your Name is a Song.
