Protest Poster: I Am Alfonso Jones

February 23, 2024 @ 11:00 am

Education students in my Diversity in Literature course read the graphic novel I Am Alfonso Jones and engaged in discussions that ranged from how they can teach texts like this in their future classrooms to the obvious injustice in black and brown communities. They read about numerous children, men, and women unfairly shot by police and activities moments that bring attention to these horrific events. They addressed how they could play a role in creating awareness for this truth and crafted protest posters that included the many lives taken and destroyed by police brutality, honorary displays for strong black historical figures, and the unconstitutional silencing of curriculum in schools.
