Reading for Black History Month

Reading event: The People Could Fly: American Black Folktales by Virginia Hamilton, was read to a group of fifth grades which took about 20 minutes. We also had some group discussion about the book. As a whole we discussed the symbolism for the wings and how did the enslaved people lose their magic? Also discussing what to the enslaved people that were left on the plantation when Toby left, and what will be the fate of them?

Eighteen students participated and was held in their media center.
