University of Northern Iowa’s African American Read-in
February 17, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 1:30 pm
The University of Northern Iowa hosted it’s 16th annual African American Read-in virtually with 2,000 first graders from various school districts in Iowa. Students were able to engage with a puppet show, visually read books by university students, and movement. They experienced the reading of books by three nationally known African American authors/illustrators namely, Jan Spivey-Gilchrist, Crystal Swain-Bates and Janelle Jennings-Alexander! Each child received a personal copy of Jan Spivey-Gilchrist’s book, all donated by Veridian and Green State Credit Unions and the College of Education Dean’s Office!
