Middle and high school English language arts (ELA) classroom teachers are invited to lead the creation of a scalable framework for responsible AI use within the discipline through a new initiative led by the National Council of Teachers of English, courtesy of a national grant from Google.org, the company’s philanthropy.
This opportunity centers ELA teachers as decision makers, following NCTE’s proven cohort model. A dozen groups comprising four teachers and one facilitator each will engage in sustained, collaborative professional development to deepen understanding of AI’s possibilities and constraints, facilitate its implementation, and generate practical resources, including peer-reviewed lesson plans for ELA instruction.
ELA teachers in grades 6–12 are invited to apply to be part of a cohort. Participants will receive a $1,500 stipend and funding to attend the 2026 NCTE Annual Convention in Philadelphia, including registration, travel, and lodging.
