NCTE, in partnership with the National Humanities Alliance (NHA), is proud to once again announce its annual award for student writers and mini-grants for educators tied to the National Endowment for the Humanities’ prestigious Jefferson Lecture. The Jefferson Lecture is the highest honor the federal government bestows for distinguished intellectual achievement in the humanities.
FOR STUDENTS
The National Writing Award: Unity and Justice
For 11th and 12th grade students: NCTE will host a National Writing Award based on Sam Mihara’s 2024 Jefferson Lecture, titled “Memories of Injustice.” The prize for the first-place winner is $1,000; four runners-up will receive $500 each.
FOR EDUCATORS
Mini-Grant Opportunity
For educators: NCTE and the NHA will offer up to three mini-grants of $1,200 to English/ELA departments to integrate the Jefferson Lecture into instruction for one or more grades. Sign up today to learn more about this opportunity as information becomes available!
