NCTE Cosigns Nonpartisan Coalition Statement Opposing “Divisive Concepts” Legislation
NCTE has joined the National Coalition Against Censorship in support of a coalition statement that responds to attempts to limit teaching related to racism, gender, and critical race theory, under a broad umbrella of “divisive concepts.”
The nonpartisan statement outlines five key reasons to oppose “divisive concepts” bills. At least seven such bills have been introduced just since the beginning of April 2021, and three have become law. A total of twelve organizations, including NCTE, are in public support of the statement.
