I recently wrote a policy analysis outlining the conversations in Arkansas around the PARCC test. In review, a governor appointed commission recommended Arkansas drop PARCC. The governor decreed that Arkansas would drop PARCC in favor of ACT Aspire. The state board of education then rejected the governor’s decision and recommended Arkansas remain with PARCC. It’s been a roller coaster ride.
As of July 9, the Arkansas State Board of Education (with three new governor appointees) voted 4-2-2 to drop PARCC and adopt ACT Aspire reversing the June vote. This means that Arkansas will have used three different assessments over the last three years.
