Kentucky was named the 15th best state for teachers, according to a report published by WalletHub. The report explains:

“In order to identify the teacher-friendliest states in the U.S., WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key dimensions, including “Job Opportunity & Competition” and “Academic & Work Environment.” Because competitive salaries and job security are integral to a well-balanced personal and professional life, we assigned a heavier weight to the first category.

We evaluated these categories using 16 relevant metrics, which are listed below with their corresponding weights. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with 100 indicating the best conditions for living and working as a teacher.”

There were 70 points available under Job Opportunity and Competition, with categories like average starting salary, projected teacher demand, and 10-year change in teacher salaries. Academic Work and Environment consisted of 30 points, comprising categories such as pupil-teacher ratio, average commute time, and school safety.

New Jersey ranked at #1 with 63.26 points out of 100, Hawaii ranked at #50 with 22.22 points. At #15, Kentucky’s total points were 55.48. This made Kentucky #10 for Job Opportunity and Competition, and #29 for Academic and Work Environment.
