Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards issued an executive order to create a Governor’s Advisory Council to prepare the state to implement the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The Council, consisting of fifteen members chosen by Gov. Edwards, is charged with reviewing the ESSA and with making recommendations for Louisiana state government, education agencies, and schools. The Council’s first report is due to the Governor by December 31, 2016, with an additional (and final) report by March 1, 2017.
