The Nebraska State Board of Education released the waiver request it is seeking from NCLB requirements for public comment on its website (http://www.education.ne.gov/eseaflex/MarchESEAFlexibilityDraft.pdf). This waiver is the state’s attempt to gain flexibility towards local control over accountability measures rather than strictly following those set forth in the ESEA legislation. The Board’s website notes this waiver seeks to ease the burden on those involved in K-12 education and build a learner-focused education system. The state notes its adoption of a new accountability system – AQueSTT – and indicates this accountability system will help build a strong network of layered support for student learning.
