The Nebraska Department of Education released a new set of ELA standards as of September 2014. The standards, indicators of what should be learned by the end of a school year, were touted as more challenging and innovative than the previous set implemented in 2009. State law requires a review of standards every five years and this year’s standards, while similar in many aspects to the earlier version, also incorporated expectations for the use of more digital technology and deeper student application of learning. The standards also promoted a stronger connection between learning and college/career readiness.
