Nebraska recently launched a Student-Centered Assessment System (NSCAS), which provides multiple assessments throughout the year coupled with professional growth opportunities for teachers. The system, designed to better measure current student progress rather than past or projected progress, provides a more timely source of assessment information for teachers currently teaching the students in their classrooms. The assessment system incorporates multiple modes of measurement, including formative, interim, and summative assessments that measure growth and achievement in Nebraska’s designated state standards, including English language arts for grades 3-8. The Nebraska State Department of Education is in the process of developing additional support and training materials for teachers, administrators, and parents. More information on this new assessment process can be found at: https://www.education.ne.gov/assessment/
