The California Department of Education (CDE) has created an app to share school data with parents, students, communities and the general public. The free app is called CA Schools, designed for iPhones, iPads, and is compatible with iOS and Android systems. It’s still early in the life of CA Schools (version 1.0.4), which is available for download at the Apple App Store or Google Play.
The app makes available all the school data the California Department of Education has compiled. Users can find schools by physical location, map, school districts, cities or ZIP codes. It will also filter by elementary, middle or high school, public/private and more. After finding the school you are interested in, the app will display details and data reports collected by CDE. Details include school contact information, administrator contact information, district details, reports on assessments, demographics and more. It can drill down to the level of physical fitness test scores by grade level at a school site or the number of English Learners at a school sorted by grade level and language.
