Ohio is preparing to revise Ohio’s Learning Standards in English Language Arts.
An online survey became available July 8, 2016, for educators and interested members of the public to review and comment on proposed revisions. The survey will be available until 5:00 p.m. on August 1, 2016.
An initial survey conducted earlier this year resulted in over 1000 comments, which were reviewed by educational advisory committees who decided which standards would be revised. The proposed revisions were crafted by educator groups working under the direction of the educational advisory committees.
Many revisions involve clarification of text and grade level suitability. Additional revisions include content addition, deletion, or error correction, vertical alignment, and hyperlinking resources outside the document.
In reviewing a comparison document, the original items are laid out beside the proposed revisions; where there are changes they are in bold print; a rationale is included that identifies the reason/type of change.
The results from the current survey will be reviewed in early August and will be sent to the State Board of Education and the Ohio Senate and House Education Committees this fall, anticipating that the entire process will be completed by the end of the year.
