The Learning Works community college research organization released a report outlining the benefits of an accelerated curriculum in place of traditional “remedial” writing and math courses. The report can be found athttp://www.learningworksca.org/accelerated-pedagogy/
The report, which was written by members of the California Acceleration Project, makes recommendations that will be familiar to those involved in remediation reform: a focus on critical thinking rather than “basic skills,” support that is connected to the college curriculum rather than isolated from it, and attention to students’ affective needs.
